The Plenary of Congress of the Republic This afternoon he rejected the admission to debate of a new motion of censure against the Board of Directors he presides Fernando Rospigliosi. The proposal achieved only 20 votes in favor while 63 legislators spoke against it. There were also 4 abstentions.
Those in charge of supporting the request were legislators Pasión Dávila and Jaime Quito, who questioned that their colleague José Jerí had assumed the Presidency of the Republic.
Pasión Dávila assured that the request for censure does not respond to a partisan calculation, but rather to the need to reestablish institutionality. He accused the Police of having acted repressively against the protesters at last Wednesday’s march and questioned the representativeness of José Jerí’s government.
Jaime Quito, who like Dávila is a member of the Socialist Caucus, for his part, accused the President of the Republic of acting with his back to the population.
In the counterpart was the parliamentarian for Fuerza Popular, César Revilla, who assured that Congressman José Jerí continues to be president of Congress and in charge of the Presidential Office. “Therefore, Fernando Rospigliosi remains first vice president and in charge of administrative functions. We are not going to ignore the Constitution, nor allow Congress to be taken by force by manipulating our young people,” he said.
In turn, Edwin Martínez called for a change in policy and added that Peru requires a transitional government “like the one that is taking place at the moment, a totally broad front.” “We, from Acción Popular, oppose making the changes sought by those who never win in the amphorae and intend to win in the streets with violence.”
After these interventions, José Cueto, who temporarily assumed leadership of the debate, gave way to the vote. The motion of censure, however, was not even debated as its admission was rejected by 63 votes. He only had the support of 20 parliamentarians when what he required was 59 votes.
