"We will not deny our children the right to the vaccine"says Padilha

In a statement on TV and radio this Friday (17), the Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha, reinforced the call for the D-day of vaccination throughout the country this Saturday (18), from 8 am to 5 pm, for children and adolescents up to 15 years of age. "We will not deny our children the right to the vaccine"says Padilha

“We will not deny our children a right that our parents did not deny us,” said the minister.

Padilha explained that more than 16 types of vaccines aimed at children and adolescents will be available. “It’s the day to leave home and take our children to get vaccinated so that Brazil can once again become the world champion in vaccination”, he highlighted.

Passbook

Families can check the vaccination status of children and adolescents via My SUS Digital app. With technology, it is possible to check which vaccines have already been administered and which still need to be taken.

The campaign continues until the end of October and is valid for all vaccines on the National Vaccination Calendar.

Misinformation

The minister recalled that the vaccine is free throughout the country and that Brazil is a country free from infantile paralysis, neonatal tetanus, rubella and measles due to immunization campaigns.

“While other countries are seeing measles return, Brazil was once again recognized in 2024 as the country free of the disease.”

The minister pointed out that, after six years of declining immunization, the Brazilian government has combatted misinformation with technology.

“We created the digital child health booklet, which already provides secure information about vaccinations for more than 1.8 million Brazilian families.

Brazil leads disinformation about vaccines in Latin America. According to a study on Anti-Vaccine Disinformation in Latin America and the Caribbean, Brazil accounts for 40% of all this type of material circulating on the social network Telegram.

The study mapped 81 million messages that were published in 1,785 Telegram conspiracy theory communities that circulated between 2016 and 2025 in 18 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. And it identified 175 alleged harms that had been attributed to vaccines and 89 false antidotes that were being sold as a way to neutralize their effects.

The star of this year’s campaign is presenter Xuxa Meneghel, eternal queen of the little ones. In the play, Xuxa and Zé Gotinha send the message to the girlsin addition to parents and responsible adults.

Pink October

In addition to vaccination, the minister highlighted the campaign for Pink October in his speech.

“When taking your children to be vaccinated, don’t forget to take care of yourself too. The Ministry of Health has expanded access to mammography with new rules.” Now, the SUS guarantees the exam for women aged 40 to 74.
