The Ministry of Health announced, this Friday (17), that Brazil has, to date, recorded 46 confirmed cases of methanol poisoning after consumption of alcoholic beverages. There are still 87 incidents under investigation.
Among the confirmed cases, 38 were in São Paulo, four in Paraná, three in Pernambuco and one in Rio Grande do Sul. In total, 528 suspicions were discarded.
Among the cases still under investigation, the majority are also in São Paulo (44 notifications). The other suspects are in Pernambuco (23), Rio de Janeiro (6), Piauí (3), Mato Grosso do Sul (2), Goiás (2), Paraná (2) and Bahia (1), Espírito Santo (1), Minas Gerais (1), Paraíba (1) and Tocantins (1).
Deaths
There has been no new confirmation of the number of deaths caused by methanol poisoning since last Wednesday (15). There are, in total, eight deaths, which occurred in the state of São Paulo (six people) and in Pernambuco (two).
Another eight cases are under investigation, two in São Paulo, three in Pernambuco, one in Mato Grosso do Sul, one in Minas Gerais and one in Parará. In total, 26 suspected deaths caused by methanol were discarded.
