The decision was taken after the minister received an alert from the State Secretariat for Resocialization and Social Inclusion of Alagoas, responsible for monitoring the equipment. According to the agency, the ankle bracelet ran out of battery on May 2nd and 3rd this year.

“The lawyers regularly appointed by Fernando Affonso Collor de Mello must be summoned to provide clarifications, within a maximum period of five days, regarding non-compliance with the precautionary measure imposed, under penalty of imprisonment”, decided the minister.

Moraes also demanded explanations from the secretariat for having reported the dismissal five months after the incident. The agency will have 48 hours to send explanations.

In 2023, Collor was convicted by the STF. According to the conviction, the former president and former senator, as a former leader of the PTB, was responsible for political appointments for BR Distribuidora, a subsidiary of Petrobras, and received R$20 million in undue advantages in the company’s contracts. According to the complaint, the crimes occurred between 2010 and 2014.

In April, Collor’s arrest was ordered after the Supreme Court denied the defense’s appeals to avoid conviction.

After the former president began serving his sentence, the defense asked the STF to grant house arrest.

Lawyers claimed that Collor is 75 years old and has several comorbidities, such as Parkinson’s disease, severe sleep apnea and bipolar affective disorder.
