His mother and stepfather remain under judicial measure.
News Colombia.
The wait ended, but not with the outcome that his family longed for. The skeletal remains found in a rural area of Roncesvalles, Tolima, were identified as those of Eileen Paeza girl of just two years old who disappeared in April 2024.
The confirmation came after DNA analyzes carried out by the National Institute of Legal Medicine, according to his grandmother. Sonia Rodriguezwho received the news directly from the authorities.
The discovery, which occurred in the same region where traces of the minor were lost, puts an end to 18 months of uncertainty since that day when his disappearance was reported among the sidewalks Agua de Dios and El Cedralin western Tolima.
“It has already been proven that they are the remains of the girl”Rodríguez said, with a broken voice.
“They told us the DNA test was a match. It is an immense pain, but at least we now know where my granddaughter is”.
Eileen had arrived in Roncesvalles with her mother, Adriana Pazand his stepfather, Brayan Estiven Lozanojust two months before disappearing.
The family had moved from a rural area of Candelaria, Valle del Cauca, looking for a new beginning.
However, according to the adults’ initial account, the girl disappeared “in a matter of minutes” while they were guarding the boundaries of a pasture.
The version never convinced investigators or paternal relatives. From the first days, inconsistencies arose in the testimonies and antecedents of alleged domestic violence.
Today, those suspicions persist. The stepfather remains deprived of liberty due to domestic violencewhile the mother meets house arrest when being linked to the process for forced disappearance.
Eileen’s grandmother claims that this tragedy could have been avoided.
Before the disappearance, he went to the Prosecutor’s Office and the ICBF to request custody of the girl, fearing for her safety.
“I went to all the institutions, I warned them what could happen, but they did nothing. Today my granddaughter is dead”, he lamented.
Since then, the search for justice became a personal cause. “We don’t want revenge, we want truth. Let what happened with Eileen not go unpunished.””the woman insisted.
Although the discovery was confirmed to the family, neither the Attorney General’s Office nor Legal Medicine have issued a public statement about the results of the genetic analysis.
He Mayor of Roncesvalles, Edisson Grajalesasked for speed in the delivery of information: “The municipality is dismayed. We want clarity and justice for this girl who disappeared here, in our territory”.
Eileen’s remains have not yet been handed over to her relatives for a proper burial.
The family hopes that in the coming days the authorities will authorize the funeral services for the little girl, whose story marked the department of Tolima.
