Santo Domingo.– The Emergency Operations Center (COE) maintains six provinces on yellow alert and raises those that are in green to 17, along with the National District, due to possible urban and rural flooding caused by moderate to heavy downpours, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusts of wind, associated with a cold front and a prefrontal trough located in the north of the country.

The provinces in yellow alert are La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Samaná, San José de Ocoa, El Seibo and Hato Mayor.

In green alert are Sánchez Ramírez, Valverde, Santiago Rodríguez, Monte Cristi, Dajabón, San Pedro de Macorís, Puerto Plata, San Juan, Santiago and Duartein addition to San Cristóbal, the National District, Espaillat, Hermanas Mirabal, María Trinidad Sánchez, La Altagracia, Monte Plata and Santo Domingo.

The authorities urge the population to refrain from crossing rivers, streams and ravines that have a high volume of water, especially in the provinces under alert.

The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) reported that the approach of the cold front and the trough They will favor the formation of clouds with moderate to heavy downpours, thunderstorms and gusts of wind, mainly during the afternoon and early evening of this Friday.

These rainfall will affect provinces such as Monte Cristi, Valverde, Puerto Plata, Santiago, La Vega, San José de Ocoa, Espaillat, María Trinidad Sánchez, Samaná, Duarte, Monseñor Nouel, El Seibo, La Altagracia, Hato Mayor, Barahona and Pedernales.

The rain is expected to gradually begin to taper off as Friday night progresses.
