The executive vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, described a newspaper article as “false” this Thursday Miami Herald which reported, citing sources close to the discussions, a official’s offer to the United States to head a transitional government in the country, excluding Nicolás Maduro.
According to the article, Delcy Rodríguez and her brother Jorge Rodríguez would have proposed a negotiated solution in which Maduro would renounce power, but would remain in the country with guarantees, while she would assume the presidency. The newspaper also stated that Qatar would have acted as a mediator in those talks.
Rodríguez rejected the version and described the report as part of a disinformation and psychological war campaign against Venezuela.
“FAKE!! Another medium that adds to the garbage dump of the psychological war against the Venezuelan people. They have no ethics or morals, and they exclusively favor lies and carrion. The Bolivarian revolution has a high military political command that is compact and united around the will of the people. Nothing will keep us from the path in the inalienable defense of the rights of Venezuela and our worthy Bolivarian historical legacy! Venezuela united is winning!!”, the official wrote on her Telegram channel.

Shortly after, the vice president executive published a selfie with Maduro, in which both appear smiling, accompanied by the message: “My response to the liars and schemers. Together and united with President Maduro consolidating the path of (Hugo) Chávez. They have not been able to and will not be able to.”
The Venezuelan government maintains its position that the country faces a “threat” from the United States due to the military deployment that Washington maintains in the Caribbean Sea, near its territorial waters.
Meanwhile, the United States defends this operation as an anti-drug strategy to combat alleged trafficking from Venezuela.
Caracas accuses the Trump government of trying to promote “regime change” to “take over” its natural resources, mainly oil.
