Santo Domingo. – The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) reported that the injured in the shooting that occurred this Thursday afternoon at his headquartersand They are members of the security force internal to the institution. Those affected are receiving medical attention, according to the academy.
The incident caused the temporary suspension of teaching on the university campus, while the authorities began investigations into the case.
The National Police identified and arrested the alleged perpetrator of the attack. It is about Alexander Jiménez Galván, 35 years oldresident in Santo Domingo Oeste, accused of being responsible for the injuries caused by a pellet gun.
Jiménez Galván was arrested shortly after the event, with the collaboration of UASD personnel. At the time of his arrest, he had blunt force trauma, including a head injuryfor which he was transferred to a health center under police custody.

According to the director of Public Relations of the UASD, Luis Pérez, the incident occurred around 3:30 in the afternoon, when Jiménez Galván was intercepted by members of university security.
Preliminary versions indicate that, when confronted, the attacker opened fire with a pellet gun, sparking a shootout on campus. In the middle of confrontationone of the security agents was injured and was initially transferred to the Dominican-Cuban Medical Center, with a wound in the chest.
After shooting, the attacker tried to flee, but was overtaken by a crowd that beat him, and he was later detained by National Police agents.

The Police, in coordination with the Public Ministry, maintains open an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the event and determine if there was participation of other people.
For its part, the Amín Abel Student Liberation Front (FELABEL) spoke out about the incident, expressing its rejection of what happened. “As a student organization, we strongly repudiate this violent act and urge the competent authorities to speak out and guarantee that this unfortunate event does not go unpunished,” the group said in a statement.
