An accident was recorded this morning in the basement of a building in the capital, due to a car fire. The smoke reached the first floors and a total evacuation was carried out.
The fire started this morning in the Esmeralda building (17 floors) on Iturbe and Herrera, in basement 1, where a car caught fire. The alarm did not sound, but the security guard alerted the owner of the vehicle and the other occupants.
The Cryo. Main. José María Martínez confirmed that several minors and adults were assisted by ambulance, because the smoke mainly affected the first floors.
“The experts are going to say the causes, so far we have firefighters and police to rescue those who are still inside,” Martínez said in an interview with Telefuturo.
The incident has already been controlled, but a total evacuation is being carried out as a precaution, since the smoke continues and inhalation can cause respiratory problems.
The occupants commented that the alarm sounds every day for any kitchen smoke, such as when preparing cocido, however, this time it did not work. To this is added, that according to the neighbors, there is no emergency exit and everyone had to go down the same stairs.
