Santiago. The Cibao International Airport (AIC) carried out a general air accident drill, in which it was able to measure its response capacity in an air emergency.
The training is done every two years, in compliance with the Aeronautics Law and standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Around 200 people actively participated in the exercise, including firefighters, lifeguards, volunteers, terminal employees and personnel from government institutions in the airport sector, such as the Specialized Airport Security Corps (CESAC), the Civil Aviation Institute ( IDAC), Immigration, Customs and Airport Department.
Action
The exercise simulated an aircraft in the landing phase that, with 25 passengers and three crew members on board, hits the ground abruptly, causing the collapse of the left main gear and leaving the runway at about 2,000 feet northeast of the threshold of runway 11 and suffered detachment of the left wing and considerable damage, generating a fire in the aircraft’s number one engine. That, according to what has been shown, forced the activation of the airport emergency plan and the immediate intervention of the Fire Rescue and Extinction Service (SSEI), the CESAC, and mutual aid, made up of the fire departments, the Red Cross and Civil Defense near the air terminal.
Teófilo Gómez, administrator of the air terminal said that the purpose of the drill was to verify the effectiveness and efficiency of the Emergency Plan of the Cibao International Airport and the actions of all the entities involved in it as ordered by the rules of the Dominican Aeronautical Regulation (RAD). ) and ICAO recommendations.
The drill was evaluated as successful
The rescuers simulated the actions in record time, with the arrival of fire trucks, arrival of triage teams, for the care and transfer of patients. After the drill, the attendees and participants were invited by directors of the Cibao Airport to a meeting, to evaluate the activity, thank those who participated and collaborated.
