The Chinese train company CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive announced the completion of tests of a new generation of commercial magnetic levitation trains, built to travel at a speed of 200 kilometers per hour.
According to the company, this rail transport works through a wireless ground control mechanism, in charge of transmitting millimeter waves of 5G bands, which enables the autonomous driving of the train.
“The vehicle is equipped with various advanced technologies, including contactless power supply. The new train is expected to be used on intercity and urban lines from 50 kilometers to 200 kilometers,” said Zhang Wenyue, deputy director of the company’s Magnetic Levitation Research Institute.
He also explained that the manufacturing model guarantees optimally modified acceleration capabilities, compared to other magnetic levitation trains.
“The control system collects real-time data on vehicle operation, in order to carry out intelligent diagnosis to ensure the safety and reliability of autonomous driving,” he said.
General tests and adjustments to the vehicle’s system took place in the high-speed magnetic levitation laboratory at Tongji University in Shanghai.
