This Wednesday, the Management Body for Comprehensive Defense (ODDI) No. 81 of Caracas was activated, in order to ensure the storage and distribution of food and water for the population of the Venezuelan capital, as well as full sovereign control over the means of transportation and communication, in the event of a contingency situation. This action forms the Operation Independence 200and was announced by the head of Government of Caracas, Nahum Fernández, who also notified the activation of 299 communal ODDIs.
To guarantee adequate local food supply, Fernández explained that cooperation will be maintained with the Food Staff of each parish, the Coche Mayor Market and the communal axes. Likewise, to protect the supply of drinking water, coordination was activated with the elements present in water wells in Caracas, in addition to carrying out coordination tasks with Hidrocapital through the mobilization of tanker trucks in the event of any event,” said Fernández.
Likewise, he reported that a deployment is being carried out to count the springs and cisterns present in Caracas, as well as studies of the hydrogen potential (pH) of the water resource, in order to ensure that it is suitable for human consumption.
Immediately afterwards, Fernández indicated that “CAracas has experience in how to respond at a time when there is no electricity, because there is an unexpected situation; “how to ensure that water reaches the houses and homes of every Caracas resident in all the neighborhoods of the city,” remembering the previous national blackouts caused by attacks on the National Electric System (SEN) by the extreme right.
Next, he indicated that with the support of the Ministry of Popular Power for Transportation, the means of mobilization present in the Caracas terminals are protected; and the buses present on the city’s transportation lines, as well as the presence of a motorized system organized by lines.
In the same area, he announced the activation of the Caracas Metro Combatant Corps, in order to “establish the dynamics so that public transportation does not stop.” He also extended that the “command and control of communications” is maintained, as well as radio and community media to report on any contingency situation, as well as protection sites and security measures.
