The Caucasia cemetery has a universe of 133 unidentified bodies.
The Search Unit for Persons Reported Missing announced that The intervention will begin in 26 sites of forensic interest in the Nuestra Señora de las Misericordias cemeterylocated in the Pueblo Nuevo neighborhood, in Caucasia, Antioquia in order to find the bodies of people reported missing.
This second phase of intervention will extend until next October 26 and in this place the forensic team will intervene 25 vaults and a grave to recover unidentified and unclaimed identified bodies, which would correspond to missing persons in the context of the armed conflict.
The Search Unit added that they will begin the characterization of the custody cell or common ossuary which houses unidentified bodies that were buried in the cemetery before 2009. a space in which the methodology for the intervention of common ossuaries recently published by the Entity will be used.
According to the entity, This cemetery has a universe of 133 unidentified bodies under the jurisdiction of the Search Unitwhich could correspond to people reported missing in the context of the armed conflict in the municipalities of Caucasia, Cáceres, El Bagre, Tarazá and Nechí in Bajo Cauca, Antioquia; from Valdivia and Ituango in the North of Antioquia; from Anorí and Segovia in Northeast Antioquia; and Montería and other municipalities in the south of the department of Córdoba and Sucre.
The Search Unit invites searching families, who consider that their missing relatives may be buried in the Nuestra Señora de las Misericordias de Caucasia cemeterywho come to this cemetery between October 15 and 26, between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, to make their search request and provide their DNA sample with the Entity’s professionals.

It also calls on those who have data that can help identify missing persons buried in this cemetery, or locate new sites of interest for the search, to go to the cemetery and provide this information to the Entity’s officials.

The first phase of intervention in the Caucasia cemetery was carried out between July 14 and 25 of this year. On that occasion, the professionals of The Entity recovered 26 bodies, received 30 search requests and they took 14 DNA samples from searchers from Bajo Cauca, Antioquia and the department of Córdoba.
