After five days of intensified inspection on federal roads, Operation Finados, by the Federal Highway Police (PRF), ends at 23:59 today (2). The final balance will be released this Wednesday (3).
From midnight on Friday (29), the PRF reinforces its presence in places with a higher incidence of serious accidents and crime. The corporation also promotes educational and awareness-raising actions on dangerous behavior in traffic.
According to the Highway Police, the main objective of the ostensive action is to discourage the practice of abuses and infractions, guaranteeing users of federal highways safety, comfort and fluidity in traffic, even with the significant increase in the flow of vehicles during the long holiday.
Preventive actions are also aimed at reducing the severity of any accidents and are focused on emergency care, fighting crime and trying to increase the users’ perception of safety.
In addition to the agents on standby on the highways, federal police monitor the behavior of drivers from the Command and Control centers, from where they can monitor, in real time, through cameras, everything that happens along the roads, spotting undue overtaking or prohibited, vehicles traveling on the shoulder or speeds incompatible with the road.
For those traveling back from holiday, the PRF recommends that the vehicle be serviced and that the required equipment be tested for operation. It is also important to check the documentation of the vehicle and all occupants, including children and teenagers. During the journey, it is important that the driver maintains a safe distance from the vehicle in front, respects the speed limits established for the road, crosses, when necessary, only on the left and pays attention to pedestrians, cyclists and other users.
