At the Congress of the National Hydrocarbons Agency of Colombia, ANH, the president of Ecopetrol, Ricardo Roa, revealed the company’s roadmap until 2040.
In it he indicated that investment in the production of hydrocarbons such as gas will not stop, but he emphasized that the commitment is to build a multi-energy company in the next 15 years, with the capacity to produce clean fuels in production, storage, transportation and marketing, in addition to expanding the supply of solar energy.
“The big bet of the energy transition is that Ecopetrol becomes a multi-energy company with a focus on the traditional business, but also on decarbonization. The focus on the traditional business is because there is no other source of income as important and relevant as that of the hydrocarbon industry to leverage large energy transition projects,” he added.
According to Roa, the traditional business has not been neglected, and he highlighted that the company achieved an average exploratory success rate of 36% annually, an increase that he attributed to greater local and international investment. Not only did he talk about exploration, he also highlighted that, in production figures, Ecopetrol reached the highest level in the last nine years, since 2016.
He added that one of the biggest challenges, not only in energy policy but also in budgetary policy, is the Fuel Price Stabilization Fund, Fecp, that is, the resources that the Nation must allocate to avoid increases in these products.
Roa highlighted the strength of the state energy company, pointing out that transfers from Ecopetrol to the Nation in 2024 reached 40.4 billion Colombian pesos, and that by 2025 the trend will continue. He said that the ANH enabled the import of gas with an offshore infrastructure of its subsidiary Cenit, in Coveñas. This infrastructure could not only import gas in the future, but also other energy sources such as hydrogen and biofuels, although gas would open the door to the transition.
