He National Union of Press Workers (SNTP) denounced this Tuesday new and serious manifestations of censorship in radio media with national coverage, which have led to threats and temporary suspensions of journalists for addressing matters of public interest.
In a statement released by the union organization, it is warned that “journalism cannot continue to be punished for reporting,” in reference to a series of recent events that according to the SNTP constitute a clear violation of freedom of expression.
Among the cases mentioned, the union highlights the prohibition of referring to the attack against two Venezuelan activists exiles in Colombia, which occurred in Bogotá, as well as the reprisals against communicators who mentioned the awarding of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to María Corina Machado.
“Such decisions reflect the advance of censorship that seeks to erase from the public agenda issues that bother those in power,” says the text, which also describes these actions as “a form of violence against journalism,” either by direct imposition or by fear of reprisals.
ANDl SNTP reiterated its solidarity with the affected journalists and ratified its commitment to defending the free, dignified and responsible exercise of journalism in Venezuela. Furthermore, he rejected “any practice that imposes vetoes, silences voices or limits the possibility of analyzing relevant events in national life.”
