The National Health Superintendency (Supersalud) would have a new superintendent, after the resignation of Giovanny Rubiano; It would be the doctor Bernardo Camacho, since his resume was published this Wednesday -October 15- on the website of the Presidency of the Republic.
The professional experience of Camacho in the health sector includes – recently – his position as intervening agent of Nueva EPSwhere he spent more than eight months, during the intervention process ordered by the National Health Superintendency.

During the time that Bernardo Camacho’s management lasted in the intervention of the Nueva EPS, The financial statements for the year 2023 and 2024 were not completely clear regarding the total amount outstanding; which could have been related to his departure.
Rubiano’s resignation
“The National Superintendent of Health, Dr. Giovanny Rubiano García, presented his resignation to the President of the Republic, Gustavo Petro Urrego, making his position available and committed to making an orderly and efficient delivery of his functions.“Supersalud said in a statement.

Although the reasons for his decision are unknown, Rubiano’s departure occurs less than a year after taking office, in November 2024, when he replaced Luis Carlos Leal, who had led the interventions of several Health Promotion Entities (EPS).
During his management at the head of Supersalud, Rubiano did not order new interventions, but He was in charge of supervising the EPS that were already under intervention by his predecessor and from previous administrations. These include some of the largest in the system, which remain under special measures due to financial and care difficulties.

One of the most visible aspects of his administration was the rotation of auditors in the main EPS. In the case of the New EPSthe entity with the largest number of affiliates in the country, three changes of controller were made during its period, which reflected internal tensions in the control and monitoring strategy over the intervened entities.

Rubiano’s resignation coincided with a scheduled political control debate in the Seventh Commission of the House of Representatives, to which he was summoned along with the auditor of several EPSGloria Libya Polanía. Neither of the two officials attended. Chamber representative Andrés Forero questioned the absence and noted that “Today the country finds out that during the government of Gustavo Petro we are going to have four national superintendents of Health”.
