Brazil continues to make history in the Paralympic weightlifting World Cup being held in Cairo (Egypt). This Wednesday (15) the Brazilian delegation surpassed its best campaign in the competition’s history thanks to Marco Túlio Cruz’s bronze medal in the under-49 kilos category.
The 22-year-old from Minas Gerais managed to climb the podium in his debut in the competition with a weight of 177 kilos (which was still valid as the new record in the Americas for his weight range). The gold medal was won by the Turkish Abdullah Kayapinar, who lifted 179 kilos, and the silver went to the Jordanian Omar Sami Qarada, with the mark of 178 kilos.

“It’s the best feeling in the world. My first World Cup. I felt all that energy. When I got here, I thought ‘it’s today!’. We have all the mental work that is difficult to control. When I left home, I told my mother that I would return with a medal. I’m very happy”, declared Marco Túlio.
Historic campaign
With Marco Túlio’s achievement, Brazil reached its third podium in the competition’s individual competitions and surpassed its best campaign until then, with two medals (a gold and a bronze) that it had obtained in Dubai 2023. On that occasion, the country also won a silver for women’s teams.
