President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated, this Wednesday (15), that investing in education is a recent political decision in the history of Brazil. “Here it took 420 years to create the first university, because there was a political decision, the predominance of a certain Brazilian elite who thought it had to be like this”, he said at an event for Teacher’s Daycelebrated this October 15th.
“Education is the beginning. Education is that path that we point to and see the light at the end of the tunnel. But it is also not just education that politicizes, because it is full of people who are very ideologically backward in Brazilian universities and schools”, stated Lula.
“There will be no lack of attitude on the part of our government to try to improve education in this country. I wake up every day wanting this country to never again have a President of the Republic who does not have a university degree. I want him to have many university degrees, but to put his knowledge at the service of the people and not at the service of personal property”, asked the president.
Lula announced that, later this year, the creation of the federal indigenous university and the university of sport should come to fruition.
“So that we can make this country sovereign on land, in the air, at sea, but also sovereign in its education. And you know that it takes time for things to happen”, he said while highlighting the importance of continuity in education policies.
The ceremony in Rio de Janeiro marks the start of issuance of the Brazilian National Teaching Card, to serve the 2.7 million teachers across the country.
The official document is valid for ten years and is aimed at teachers at all levels and stages of education, in public and private networks. The request system will be open from this Thursday (16th), through the page More Teachers.
To be eligible, the teacher must have a regular Individual Taxpayer Registry (CPF) with the Federal Revenue Service and be working as a teacher in an educational institution.
Benefits
During the event, the government announced other investments in the Mais Professores Program, launched in January this year and which involves a series of actions to encourage and value teaching in the country. The initiative allows teachers to have exclusive benefits, such as half price for cultural events, work tools, credit cards with different conditions and hotel discounts.
The government has also formed partnerships with companies across Brazil to guarantee discounts, benefits and special advantages for teachers who will have the Brazilian National Teaching Card. The #TôComProf Seal will be displayed at the points of sale of partner companies, signaling that the teacher will find different conditions there. To use the benefit, simply present your wallet.
To be part of the #TôComProf program, establishments must have national or regional coverage and regularity with the public administration. Companies must offer financial or commercial services such as food, culture and leisure, hygiene and cleaning, housing, health and transport, among others. The minimum discount offered must be 10% of the list value or price charged to the general public, for a period of up to 12 months or in a specific quantity.
THE public call notice for interested companies was launched in September and remains open until November 30th. The results will be published in cycles and the updated list of partner companies is listed on the website. More Teachers
Awards
Lula also awarded 100,000 teachers from public schools, selected based on the schools with the highest score in the Basic Education Development Index (Ideb), including challenging contexts, according to socioeconomic level. The winners received a Banco do Brasil card with credit of R$3,000 to purchase work tools, such as computers, notebooks and tablets.
To compete for the next awards, the teacher must access the same application system as the Brazilian National Teaching Card and, at the end of the process, fill out the “More Teachers – Appreciation” form. Teachers from all states and the Federal District will be awarded prizes, in the categories of initial years of elementary school, final years of elementary school and high school.
The government also presented the reformulation of the More Teachers Training Portalwhich brings together free continuing education, undergraduate, master’s and doctorate courses. The new version promises an easier search for thousands of opportunities, with an interactive panel that includes a map with offers divided by state.
