Óscar Fausto Fernández Cáceres was sworn in as Minister of Labor and Employment Promotion (MTPE), replacing Daniel Maurate. Óscar Fernández Cáceres is a lawyer from the San Martín de Porres University and has a specialization in Municipal Management from ESAN. He has more than 25 years of professional experience, with experience in local and regional governments, the private sector and complementary training in Municipal Management (ESAN). He is a resident of the La Molina district, where he has also developed political representation roles, as a councilor for the period 2023-2026 and a candidate in previous elections.
He stood out as a high-level athlete between 1986 and 1994, representing the country in international competitions. He participated in the Rome 1987 World Athletics Championships, the 1989 World University Championships in Germany, and youth championships in Sudbury, Canada, and Germany in 1988. Later, he was president of the Peruvian Athletics Federation, managing institutional sanitation and achieving the greatest sporting successes in the history of national athletics, including 14 qualifications for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and international recognition for his ability. organization and results obtained.
In the educational field, Fernández Cáceres presided over the educational institution La Molina Christian Schools, managing an academic offer of 400 students in primary and secondary school. In the public sector, between 2016 and 2018, he led the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD), guiding the institution towards massification, talent detection and high sports competition, with improvements in public management and emblematic initiatives such as the Top Perú Lima 2019 program.
At the time of his ministerial appointment, Fernández Cáceres was in charge of the National Directorate of Physical Education and Sports of the Ministry of Education, promoting school sports and coordinating the School Sports and Parasports Games (JEDPA), which in 2025 reached a record of more than 856,000 participants in the UGEL stage. In addition, he led comprehensive pedagogical initiatives in sports and art, as well as national academic competitions and olympiads.
