The Session Room of the Central Building of the Municipality of Cerro Largo was the venue chosen to launch the 18th International Meeting of Classic Cars, Meeting of Friends.

The event was attended by the Mayor, the main representative of Fierros Viejos Motor Club, the person in charge of the Events Area and the group of artisans and entrepreneurs who are part of the activity that will take place from Friday, October 17 to Sunday, October 19 in Rivera Park.

“This is an important activity for the department, an activity that has already been carried out for 18 uninterrupted years in terms of holding a Classic Car Meeting year after year” held Christian Morel.

“I want to thank Pablo (Jackson) having decided again to organize the meeting despite the fact that the Municipality unfortunately could not financially make any type of contribution due to the real situation that everyone knows” highlighted the Mayor of Cerro Largo.

“There is another activity that was done every year in this city that unfortunately its organizers made the decision to take it somewhere else. We would have liked it to stay here in Melo. They believed that it was not convenient and that it was not the time to do it. We asked Pablo the same thing, that there was no money, but that there were logistics, there was support and that the Events team was at his disposal” he stated. “For the simple reason that Pablo does it from the heart and for the simple reason that Pablo does it because he truly feels this activity, he made the decision that it be done, that it be done in Rivera Park and that the entire population of Melo has free access to an activity.” he added.

“Seeing private individuals doing free activities excites me more. It is these types of people who must always be supported. I am grateful to the business that gave them a hand and to the entrepreneurs who believed in this project” projection.

Morel invited the entire population to go to Rivera Park starting Friday, a space that will begin to be transformed after this activity ends, as confirmed by the Communal Chief himself.

MEETING OF FRIENDS

“18 years ago we started with a Classic Cars event in front of Plaza Constitución where we received 18 vehicles and a couple of motorcycles” he started saying Paul Jackson.

“Among those 18 vehicles there were foreigners: 1 from Porto Alegre and 2 from Nuevo Hamburgo and several from Bagé” he remembered.

“Since it was so small, it emerged as a joke that more than a Classic Car Meeting it was a Friends Meeting” he told a press conference.

This Meeting grew over the years, changing location several times until finally settling in Rivera Park. “In 2024 we had the pleasant surprise of receiving a very large number of participants on Wednesday that honestly exceeded our expectations. More than 500 vehicles arrived, transforming the activity into one of the largest in Uruguay” he assured.

“This year we are committed to being part of the development of the department” emphasized the Reference of Fierros Viejos Motor Club. “If the department is bad, we have to go out with everything to overcome this moment. Cerro Largo has to stand out for good news, not just for the bad, and we are betting on that. This meeting, called the Meeting of Friends, transcends borders” he stated.

Pablo Jackson stressed that this is a proposal that is aimed at the entire family. “You can go with your children calmly because there will be no traffic problems. The vehicles of those who attend will remain outside the property” he warned. “Within the Rivera Park property, with free entry, it is only for classic vehicles. There you will find a different atmosphere, a family atmosphere. That is what characterizes us” he stressed.
