Fecode and CUT announce marches for this October 14: concentration point and schedule

With the aim of supporting the social reforms promoted by the Petro government, including the pension reform, the health reform and the update of the General Participation System, two of the main unions in the country will mobilize this Tuesday, October 14.

The Colombian Federation of Education Workers (Fecode) and the Unitary Central of Workers (CUT) called for sit-ins in the Plaza de Bolívar in Bogotá to pressure the definition of the reforms, which are currently being processed or reviewed by State institutions.

The protest will begin at 10:00 am in the country’s capital.

In addition, other sit-ins are planned by the regional sub-directorates and member unions of Fecode and the CUT, in several municipalities.

They push to approve the reforms

The idea of these concentrations is to promote the discussion and approval of the pension reform (under study in the Court) and the health reform.

The pension reform: It is perhaps the main flag of the mobilization. The unions urge the Constitutional Court to give way to the project that seeks to transform the pension system in Colombia, unifying it into a pillar model that combines public and private contributions. The high court’s decision is seen as decisive for the future of this initiative.

Health reform: Although it has already passed several debates, the protesters seek to ensure that the final text approved in the Senate respects the essence of the original project. The purpose is to consolidate a health model that, according to its defenders, prioritizes care and not financial intermediation.

Likewise, the labor confederations ask that the presentation of the draft organic law of the General Participation System (SGP) be brought forward to guarantee that the territorial entities have sufficient funds to comply with their obligations and ensure these fundamental rights to the population.
