It is a space that brings together researchers and creators to reflect on identities, borders and spaces of power of Latin American communities in United States territory.
Dedicated to the Chicana academic, political activist and poet Gloria Anzaldúa, the meeting takes place under the motto “Latinity and human geographies: the (in)visible borders and their spaces of power.”
During the initial sessions, experts from Cuba, Colombia, Mexico, Argentina and the United States They participate in panels on topics such as migrant subjects, Chicano intellectual production, and cultural mediations in border contexts.
The event also includes the presentation of new publications from the Casa de las Américas Editorial Fund and the Latino Studies Program in the United States, focused on contemporary experiences and debates about Latinidad.
Among the thematic axes of the colloquium, the geographical histories of Latinidad in the United States, border policies and the dynamics of the Latino vote in the context of the 2024 presidential election.
The experiences of Afro-Latinos and indigenous people from south of the Rio Grande will also be addressed, and the intersections between art, literature and migration as forms of resistance and identity reconstruction.
The meeting, which combines the academic approach with a critical look at sociocultural processes, seeks make visible the voices and tensions that cross the Latino experience in the United Statesin dialogue with contemporary debates about race, gender, territory and belonging.
