The confrontation that occurred last October 9 on the central campus of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) among a group headed by Fernando Abreupresident of the movement Free Homeland (Palib), and several university students, will go to court.
Abreu presented a complaint with constitution as civil plaintiff against Fernando A. Peña Segura and Carlos Nazaret Mesa de los Santos, whom he accuses of inciting violence and physically attacking members of his team during an incident at the university campus.

The judicial action is based on the alleged violation of the articles 308, 336 and 336.1 of the Dominican Penal Codewhich sanction the verbal threats and the discrimination for ideological reasons.

“While the technical team of Free Homeland and Right Daily organized the debate stage, members self-identified as leftists insulted us. Along with security personnel of the UASD without uniform or identification, physically attacked a cameraman and other members of the team,” Abreu said.

In a release issued on October 13, the General Directorate of Communications of the UASD confirmed that the incident involved Abreu and a group of people who accompanied him, who “confronted students from the University,” so the security personnel intervened preventively.

“We call upon the Lord Fernando Abreu to refrain to carry out any action that threatens the good development of teaching and the safety of our students,” the document states.
