Luis Alberto Rendón did not accept charges in proceedings for the crimes of kidnapping and aggravated torture

Luis Alberto Rendón was captured over the weekend in Cali and presented before a judge for his alleged involvement in the crimes of kidnapping and aggravated torture. The case is related to a million-dollar robbery that occurred on a farm located in the Llanogrande sector, in eastern Antioquia, in May 2023. During the preliminary hearings held this Sunday, October 12, Rendón, 62, did not agree to the charges brought by the Attorney General’s Office. The case dates back to May 2023, when the residence was the scene of a robbery in which the criminals took jewelry, valuables and an approximate sum of $1.7 billion. According to preliminary information, after the robbery, security personnel at the property allegedly retaliated against two employees whom they accused of being involved. These workers reported to the authorities that they had been victims of illegal retention, physical attacks and threats, while they were required to provide information about the whereabouts of the money and jewelry. The statements of the victims were decisive for the opening of a judicial process for kidnapping and aggravated torture. One of those attacked told investigators the violence he suffered, describing how they hit him with a hammer on the arm and chest until he lost consciousness due to blood loss. In addition, he reported that his captors severely intimidated him by putting the barrel of a gun in his mouth while demanding information. The investigation indicates that Luis Alberto Rendón would have intervened along with others in the retention and aggression of the workers. The Prosecutor’s Office will present the evidentiary elements that, apparently, link the artist’s father with these acts that would have taken place during “unofficial proceedings” to obtain information.
