At least 14 dead after the collapse of the Hansa mine in El Callao

The heavy rainfall in the town, according to witnesses, would be the main cause of the collapse of the Hansa mine in the Caratal sector, El Callao municipality, where at least 14 deaths have been recorded and the search for more victims continues.

In cylinder or well number 1, 3 deaths were found, while in cylinder 2, a total of 5 deaths were found, and in well or cylinder number 3, 6 deaths were found for a total of 14 fatalities.

According to information provided by the National Risk Management System, in the early hours of this Monday, October 13, three wells or cylinders were under water, as a result of the heavy rains, thus generating the collapse and subsequent collapse of the structures.

Bailing vehicles and different security and prevention organizations began search maneuvers after the event, which left relatives waiting for the official report.

The Hansa mine is made up of wells or cylinders, unlike others whose structure is open pit, which makes the space smaller, making it impossible to get out if water or earth is entering, as it is only one way.

It is expected that by tonight, the security agencies will be able to give an official report on the search day, in which Guasipati Firefighters, Minerven emergency control workers and the Bolivarian National Guard remain deployed since the moment of the accident.
