Afinia guarantees a stable operating margin thanks to the balance between energy demand and generation in the region.
After the start of the scheduled maintenance of the Regasification Plant in Cartagena that will last until October 14, Afinia, a subsidiary of the EPM Group, reported on the operational status of the regional electrical system.
The company reported that the operating day has remained stable and without effects on the electricity supply for its more than 1.8 million users in the Caribbean.
Afinia assured that the forecasts of energy demand and available generation in the region guarantee a sufficient operating margin. This condition ensures full coverage of the electricity supply in the jurisdiction.
The company’s technical team indicated that they maintain constant monitoring and coordination with the maintenance areas and with the operator XM, in order to anticipate any deviation that may affect the stability of the regional system.
However, the company reminded users of the importance of maintaining efficient energy consumption at home through the optimization of the resource in the comprehensive and sustainable development of the Caribbean region. In addition, The company will inform about any changes or news through its official communication channels.
Gas rationing ruled out in the Caribbean
Despite concerns about possible rationing of natural gas in the Caribbean region, the Government and energy sector authorities assured that the supply is guaranteed during the maintenance work to be carried out by the Sociedad Portuaria El Cayao (SPEC LNG) between October 10 and 14.
The maintenance that is carried out annually since the start of operations of the terminal, seeks to ensure the correct functioning of the infrastructure that receives, stores and transforms liquefied natural gas (LNG) into a gaseous state to supply the national system.
According to SPEC LNG, these preventive works will be carried out on key equipment such as the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU).
“Maintenance dates are coordinated in advance with users and energy sector authorities.. The use of infrastructure, maintenance of power plants and the low demand for gas on holidays is considered,” explained José María Castro, general manager of SPEC LNG.
“Thanks to these annual maintenances, the terminal maintains an availability greater than 99.9%, guaranteeing the reliability and efficiency of the infrastructure that contributes to the country’s energy security,” Castro added.
The manager highlighted that this maintenance was notified since last March 28 and registered in the Maintenance and Intervention Information System (SIMI) of the National Gas Operation Council (CNO-Gas).
