This Sunday, October 12, just hours before the deadline for the resignation of authorities and senior officials who wish to run for the 2026 General Elections, the still mayor Rafael López Aliaga gave an account of his 2025 management in the Exhibition Park.
The mayor would plan to leave the mayor’s office of Lima for next year’s presidential elections.
This, added to his visits to regions for meetings with supporters of Renovación Popular, the party with which he became mayor, are causing rumors to grow that López Aliaga would be aiming for the elections, although there is still no official statement, which could arrive shortly, since this October 13 the deadline set by the electoral entities will expire.
If López Aliaga leaves the mayor’s office of Lima to run, according to the Organic Law of Municipalities, the deputy mayor Renzo Reggiardo would be in charge of taking over from him until the end of the period, that is, December 31.
The transfer would be immediate and would not require an internal election or ratification by the Metropolitan Council.
It is worth remembering that, in a public event, Reggiardo gave a message to the mayor that many interpreted as a farewell: “I thank you very, very much, for having trusted me, for having invited me to be part of, of this administration and that you will always have a soldier in me, wherever I am,” he expressed.
