They activated the Bolivarian Indigenous Shield in Zulia

The indigenous nations whose habitats coincide with the state of Zulia activated the Bolivarian Indigenous Shield this October 12 during a march held on the bridge over the Limón River in the border municipality of La Guajira.

Within the framework of the commemoration of the Day of Indigenous Resistance, the indigenous nations made a declaration in rejection of the constant threats of the US government against Venezuela and in defense of sovereignty and the Republic.

Together with leaders, chiefs and palabreros of the Añú, Japreira, Yukpa, Barí and Wayuu peoples, Governor Luis Caldera stated that the indigenous peoples are in permanent resistance. He ratified the presidents of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, and of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, the support of the indigenous peoples and the decision to win in honor of Chávez, Bolívar, Nigale, Yaurepara. “These people marched to tell the world that Venezuela respects itself and we will defend it,” said the Governor.

After the mobilization, the Indigenous Militia was activated in the 21 municipalities of Zulia, in a popular-military-police union, under the order of President Commander Maduro Moros, which constitutes the Bolivarian Indigenous Shield on the border of Zulia.

Indigenous nations also declared themselves Guardians of Mother Earth, not in terms of property but in terms of preserving life on the planet.

In their declaration, the indigenous people rejected the racist, patriarchal and discriminatory structures that still persist in public and private organizations of Venezuelan society and committed to continue resisting, from their ancestral culture, revitalizing their languages, medicine, tradition, spirituality and organizational system.
