More than 20 world leaders meet in Egypt to monitor ceasefire in Gaza

Under the ceasefire agreement, 250 Palestinian prisoners were released, including some serving life sentences for deadly attacks.


Hamas announced that it will begin releasing Israeli hostages in Gaza on Monday morning, October 13. The release is scheduled before the “peace summit” on the same day, but in the afternoon in Sharm el Sheikh, in which leaders from more than 20 countries and the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, participate. Israel has not yet confirmed whether it will attend.

The October 7 hostages will be released this Monday, according to Hamas

According to the ceasefire agreement, reached in Egypt and which was drawn up from a 20-point plan put forward by US President Donald Trump, it establishes the release of 250 Palestinian prisoners, including some who are serving life sentences for deadly attacks. For its part, Hamas has until Monday to release the 48 Israeli hostages still in Gaza, some alive and others deceased in captivity.

Another 1,700 Palestinians, detained by the Israeli army during military operations in Gaza since the Hamas attacks of October 7, 2023, will also be released as part of the ceasefire agreement.

The US president announced that he will meet with “many leaders” in Egypt on Monday to discuss the future of Gaza, devastated by more than two years of war.

With the United States and Qatar, Egypt played a decisive role in the negotiations that led to the ceasefire agreement.
