The sector of medical devices and pharmaceuticals exported 1,928.3 million dollars between January and August of this year, a figure that confirms the leadership of this subsector within the regime of free zones.
The data was highlighted by the Minister of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM), Víctor Bisonó, during his intervention in it PowerTalk “Leadership in Times of AI“, a conference organized by the Dominican Association of Free Zones (Adozona) and the Cluster of Medical Devices and Pharmacists (CDMF).
Bisonó maintained that the leadership of the Dominican Republic in the industry medical devices “It is not measured only by the ability to innovate, but by the vision of doing so with purpose, ethics and human impact”.

He highlighted that in 2024 the subsector exported 2,871.7 million dollars, equivalent to 33.4% of the total exported by the free zones and that currently 42 companies operate in the country under this regime, including world leaders such as Medtronic, Jabil, Fresenius Kabi, Steris, Cardinal Health, Baxter, Becton Dickinson, B. Braun and Medline.
These companies generate close to 33,500 jobs direct and accumulate investments exceeding 1,940 million dollars, equivalent to 25% of all investment in free zones.
Collaboration between sectors
The owner of the MICM highlighted the role of CDMF which for nine years has promoted the collaboration between the State, academia and the private sector.
The event brought together executives of the sector, authorities and international experts to reflect on the leadership and innovation in times of artificial intelligence.
Among the personalities present were Claudia Pelleranopresident of Adozona, and Yira Pérezexecutive director of CDMFtogether with representatives of the ecosystem of free zones and of pharmaceutical sector.
