Uruguay began procedures to import a larger volume of beef from Paraguay to offer a cheaper product to the populationaccording to what the Minister of Livestock, Fernando Mattos, said at a press conference.

35% of Paraguay’s meat exports were to Russia and this product may be available due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. “Surely there will be opportunities there, surely the private parties are negotiating,” Mattos said at a press conference.

Alfonso Fontenla, president of the Union of Meat Vendors (UVC), informed this Thursday to The Observer what meat increased 25% from Januaryand added that there will be further increases in the short term.

The price of minced meat ranges from $250 to $400 per kilo, that of the roast from $290 to 450, and the price of butt pulp to make milanese steaks already cut ranges from $450 to $550.

Unfortunately, there will be more increasesbecause the reason for all this is a strong demand for Uruguayan meat in the international market and a revaluation of meat, the price of cattle is very high, at record levels and this has no prospect of change in the short termFontenla said.

So far in 2022, Paraguayan meat imports increased by 5.2% compared to the same period in 2021.
