Among the main incidents this Saturday, six thermoelectric units out of service on the Island stand out.

LIMA, Peru – The Electrical Union (UNE) reported this Saturday that the national electrical system will remain in a serious situation, with blackouts in about 49% of the territory due to the strong generation deficit.

In its daily note, the state company acknowledged that the service was interrupted for 24 hours on Friday, October 10 and that the effects extended throughout the early hours of this Saturday. The maximum disconnection of the previous day occurred at 7:10 p.m., with a deficit of 1,692 megawatts (MW).

Among the main incidents this Saturday are the breakdowns in Unit 2 of the Felton Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE), Unit 6 of the Diez de Octubre CTE, Unit 8 of Mariel and Unit 3 of the Renté CTE.

Likewise, maintenance is carried out on Unit 2 of the CTE Santa Cruz and Unit 4 of the CTE Carlos Manuel de Céspedes in Cienfuegos.

The UNE recognized that there are 505 MW out of service due to thermal limitations. In addition, problems persist due to lack of fuel, with 43 distributed generation plants inoperative (280 MW) and 315 MW unavailable due to lack of lubricant, totaling 595 MW affected by this cause.

The situation will worsen during peak consumption hours. According to the state electricity company, at the night peak demand will reach 3,350 MW, while the available generation will be only 1,780 MW. This will generate a deficit of 1,570 MW, with an estimated impact of 1,640 MW, equivalent to 49% of the national territory.

Electricity outages exceed 20 hours a day in eastern provinces, while in Havana blackouts reach up to 10 hours a day.

The energy crisiswhich has been dragging on since mid-2024, is due to breakdowns in obsolete thermal power plants, scheduled maintenance, lack of fuel and lubricants, in addition to the paralysis of dozens of distributed generation engines and poor government management.
