First Public Mental Health Policy sanctioned in Bolívar: the law creates a care route for the department

The law mandates the creation of municipal mental health centers.

The Public Mental Health Policy of the department of Bolívar became an ordinance, The document, which represents the first law of its type in the history of Bolívar, was signed in the municipality of Magangué this Friday, October 10, within the framework of the commemoration of World Mental Health Day.

The act of signing the ordinance was attended by local authorities, deputies and representatives of the health sector, among them, the governor of Bolívar, Yamil Arana Padauí, who, after signing the administrative act, stated that the law establishes a new approach to territorial management.

“Sometimes we fight for schools, stadiums or roads, but We don’t stop to think about how our people are doing with mental health.. With this public policy, emotional well-being will be a priority in every government action,” he stated.

According to the authorities, this law responds to the need to confront the problems associated with health in municipalities such as Magangué, a place where high rates of depression, suicide attempts, and domestic violence have been recorded. and homes with limited functioning.

For her part, representative Karen Cure, who promoted the initiative, highlighted the impact of the measure. “This policy was born after identifying in Magangué one of the highest rates of emotional impact in the department. Starting today, Bolívar will have a clear care route to accompany the families and young people who need it most,” said the deputy.
