The event occurred on the morning of Thursday, October 9, in the Dos de Mayo sector, Palcazú district. Residents of the area alerted the authorities after seeing remains of the fuselage floating in the river. Personnel from Dirandro Ucayali and the National Police went to the scene to begin the proceedings.
According to the first investigations, the occupants of the small plane, presumably Bolivian pilots, would have fled the scene before being located by law enforcement. The aircraft was partially sunk in the water, apparently to eliminate evidence of the illicit cargo.

The registration of the ship confirmed its Bolivian origin and its links to drug trafficking networks that operate between Peru, Bolivia and Brazil. In the area where the accident occurred, authorities have destroyed around 40 clandestine runways so far this year; however, these continue to be reactivated by traffickers due to the remote location and lack of constant monitoring.
