The Penal Forum organization counts a total of 841 people detained in Venezuela for political reasons until October 6, according to the balance disseminated on the night of October 9 on social networks.
The number of political prisoners has remained the same since last week. The publication indicates that the whereabouts of 37 people are unknown and highlights that there are 97 foreigners in the group of political prisoners. In relation to balance presented as of September 29there are three more foreigners behind bars.
Penal Forum presented the breakdown of those detained in the country. The majority are men and civilians. According to the registry, there are 738 men and 103 women deprived of liberty; 668 are civilians and 173 are military.
Likewise, they highlight that the group is made up of 837 adults and four adolescents held in detention centers for minors in the states of Lara and La Guaira.

In the report presented by the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission of the United Nations on Venezuela documented the “harsh post-electoral repression following the presidential elections of July 28, 2024” and the serious human rights situation in the country through a wave of coordinated and systematic repression by the State, which still continues in 2025.
