After the events during the concert offered by the musical group Agua Marina and the wave of insecurity that has been sweeping the country, musicians and artists from the Incontrastable City speak out and demand greater security, ensuring that they are currently living adrift knowing that it is possible that one day they will not return after a performance.
Among members of orchestras, bands, groups and solo singers, they usually have performances until late into the night, putting their lives and those of their other members at risk. Furthermore, they affirm that they feel that extortion could take on greater force in the region if the police authorities do not “they take matters into their own hands”.
The musician Pelayo Meza, director of the Canipaco Super Selecta orchestra, stated that he had received extortion calls in which they asked him to deposit five thousand soles, but he responded with cunning and a mixture of insults and flattery, he was able to get away and continue working normally. “What happened hurts me, the police don’t really work as they should. A year ago they tried to extort me, but thank God I was able to free myself. I wanted to report it, but they only say that they need proof that there are no logistics and other things”He added that the roads are the most dangerous areas since they usually rob them there with weapons and balaclavas.
For his part, the singer and director of the Huancaíno group Andu, David Valdez, revealed another risk: public exposure. “We, the artists, publish dates and routes and that is totally unsafe because we put the day, time, date and city where we are going to be and the criminals are on the lookout”he explained. He noted that promoters are usually in charge of logistics and hospitality, but not the artist’s continued safety once the show ends, which leaves them vulnerable during journeys and stops.
On the other hand, the well-known singer Robert Muñoz (Clavito), from the orchestra “Clavito and his Chela” They are more representative figures who experienced the threats firsthand. According to the singer himself, like all musicians and artists, what worries them most is not knowing if one day they will be the next victims and will not be able to get home to see their children grow up. After expressing solidarity with Agua Marina, he condemned the attacks and revealed that he himself has received threats that forced him to cancel presentations in northern areas.
“Peru is afraid, you cannot work in peace”he stated, pointing out that behind each group there are dozens of families that depend on the shows. “Even if we invest in cameras, private security or even bulletproof vests, nothing guarantees us being safe”said asking the Government to act urgently to restore tranquility to the country and allow artists to work without fear.
Various groups and artists from the region expressed their feelings through social networks, expressing solidarity with those injured at the Agua Marina concert and demanding radical measures to root out the crime that is taking hold.
