The president of the United States was quick to publish on his Truth Social account the signed acceptance of Israel and Hamas for a first phase of a broad pacification project, which includes the exchange of prisoners and hostages, the withdrawal of Israeli forces towards an agreed line and, presumably, the disarmament of the aforementioned Palestinian armed organization.
Trump, who insists on believing he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, has proposed a plan of apparent calm that the fighting parties have accepted in principle. At first reading, it is important that progress be made in the pacification of that area, although it remains to be seen whether in the details it stagnates or explodes again.
It is unclear what will follow the withdrawal of Israeli forces and what Hamas’ exact commitment to disarmament is. If this group gets rid of its weapons, it will be at the expense of a new attack by Israel, which would have only “retired” to a specific line. It will also be important to foresee the scope of the reconstruction plans in Gaza, which feed American business voracity, and the specific formation of a new governing body, with the United States eager to win and control as much as possible.
In Mexico, meanwhile, very early in the morning the six nationals who were part of the flotilla embarked towards Gaza, with humanitarian aid, had arrived at the Mexico City International Airport, which was violently detained by the Israeli army and the travelers were kidnapped, only to be released days later, in stages.
Several of the repatriated Mexicans indicated that there was physical abuse, torture and aggressiveness that reached the Mexican ambassador to Israel himself, Mauricio Escanero, a career diplomat towards whom there were coincident recognitions for his effective work. According to what was stated, there was rude and inattentive verbal treatment against the representative of the Mexican State.
The return home of the sailors, in the context of the general release of the detainees from various countries, did not temper the demands that, in the face of the Israeli genocide practiced in Gaza, the Mexican government (whose foreign minister, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, has been expressly reproached for his adherence or closeness to Zionism) assume a firmer, without lukewarm, stance.
It is also worth noting that the returned travelers stated that, beyond what happened to them personally, there must be the central purpose of keeping an eye on what is happening in Palestine and redoubling the media and political battle in their support.
