Authorities find charred remains in the home of a missing woman in San Cristóbal

Autoridades hallan restos calcinados en casa de mujer desaparecida en San Cristóbal

SAN CRISTÓBAL.– This Thursday, police and Public Ministry authorities located charred human remains in the residence of Lisset Melenciano Tejadawho was reported missing on October 5 in the Kilometer 3½ sector of this province.

The discovery occurred during a joint operation led by the Regional Research Subdirectorate (DICRIM) and prosecutors from the Public Ministry. According to the preliminary report, agents noticed disturbed dirt in the front yard of the home, which raised suspicions and prompted a more thorough inspection.

When digging, they found a hole partially covered with dry branches and traces of diesel fuel. Bone fragments and charred remains were found inside, with characteristics compatible with human tissue. The evidence was collected under the chain of custody protocol and sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) for identification and anthropological analysis.

Research in development

Although the authorities have not officially confirmed that the remains correspond to Melenciano Tejada, they indicated that all indications point in that direction, since the discovery occurred on her property and there has been no contact with her since her disappearance.

“We are investigating all possible lines to clarify this fact and find those responsible,” said a spokesperson for the National Police, who also requested the collaboration of citizens to provide information that can contribute to the investigation.

Dismay in the community

The news has caused deep commotion in the Kilometer 3½ sector, where the woman was known for her affable treatment and her years of residence in the place. Neighbors reported that days before they heard unusual noises, although they never imagined that it was a crime.

Community and human rights organizations demanded that transparency be guaranteed in the judicial process and the protection of the victim’s relatives. Meanwhile, the results from INACIF are expected to confirm whether the remains correspond to Lisset Melenciano Tejada, which would allow the investigation to advance with greater precision.
