He Dominican government has proposed a roadmap to double, with the support of the private sector, the growth of the economy in the next eleven years. As a businessman and long-time expert in the financial sector, the executive president of the Popular Group, Rene Grullonis confident that this objective can be achieved by addressing two issues that, in his opinion, are priorities: electricity and education.
Speaking as keynote speaker for the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (Amchamdr), Grullón considered that addressing the challenges of the electrical system in the short term – addressing persistent challenges in energy distribution – would contribute to improving competitiveness facing the Goal RD 2036.
“In my opinion, I think there is no more urgent priority. Acting now is essential for the competitiveness and the stability in this country,” he emphasized.
Likewise, he explained that taking urgent actions that raise the educational quality In the long term it is essential to ensure social mobility and productivity.

“We have to be brave, and face the challenge of taking difficult decisions. Measures that cannot continue to wait and that, in the medium term, will be essential to guarantee a economic growth full and sustainable. And these decisions must be made on the basis of dialogue and consensus,” the executive stressed.

Grullón also valued the commercial ties and cultural with USA as the main economic partner of a nation that remains “reliable, stable and committed” to shared values of democracy and rule of law in the Caribbean.
He recognized that the country is in a turning point in which speed “is the new currency of business” and in which younger generations demand sustainability, inclusion, transparency and new ways of organizing work, driven by technological development.

During her welcome speech, the president of Amchamdr, Francesca Rainieri, welcomed the fact that the country has Leah Francis Campos as the new ambassador of the United States, with whom the Dominican business sector hopes to work together to continue strengthening bilateral ties.
Likewise, he recognized the public-private delegation that participated in the Dominican Week in the United States, which served as a platform to promote the Summit of the Americas, which will be held from December 2 to 5 in Punta Cana.
