Between the jungle and silence, a road project was buried under water and years.

News Colombia.

In the middle of the thick forest of the Tenza Valley, covered by vegetation that has claimed it as its own, there is a tunnel that never fulfilled its purpose. It was part of an ambitious road project that promised to connect regions, but something went wrong. The works stopped and, as time went by, nature completely enveloped it until it became a secret hidden between mountains.

Content creator Kevin Bolaños decided to venture to this site to meet him and tell what is hidden behind his story. Its journey began at the Sisga reservoir, a route that goes through several tunnels and impressive landscapes, until reaching the municipality of Santa María, Boyacá, where the enigmatic flooded tunnel remains.

Getting there was no easy task. Kevin and his companions had to walk through paths full of vegetation, cross rivers and climb hills, all surrounded by a natural environment that seemed straight out of a movie. Finally, they reached the sector known as Monte Bonito, a point with its own history.

“Quarry 5 operated here, where the rock was extracted to build the embankment. At this point the construction of a tunnel for a national highway also began with the idea that vehicles could cross the mountain,” Bolaños said.

Inside the tunnel, the scene was as overwhelming as it was fascinating. The walls were completely rocky and water covered a good part of the floor. According to Kevin, the project was abandoned due to the instability of the terrain, which forced the engineers of the time to open another nearby tunnel, where vehicles travel today.

As they advanced, the water level rose. “The tunnel is approximately 700 meters long,” explained Kevin, who decided not to continue further to avoid risks. Thus, the group ended its journey within this monument to oblivion, where nature and time were in charge of writing their own ending.

Today, this tunnel remains hidden, covered by the forest and guarded by silence. Very few know it, and even fewer dare to cross it. Its history, however, continues to arouse the curiosity of those who search in the most remote corners of the country for the secrets left by the past.
