The FGR’s accusation comes from listening to telephone conversations between members of the Sinaloa Cartel, in which an alleged relationship between the boxer and Néstor Isidro Pérez Salas, “El Nini”, who was head of bodyguards for ”Los Chapitos” and is in the United States, where he was extradited since 2024, is established.
According to the intercepted calls, the boxer was in charge, by orders of “El Nini”, of hitting members of the criminal organization who should be punished. Chávez denied the version.
“I’m not a person who walks around with people taking care of me, I walk alone, and if they greet me, I don’t know who they are. If I have to greet someone, I hope I’m fine and that they behave well with me and get along, I’m not going to be asking who is who,” said Chávez Jr. about having to live with members of organized crime.
The son of Mexican boxing legend Julio César Chávez was arrested in the United States in July. He was later deported to Mexico to face justice, however, he is free in his trial.
“It was a shock for me, I never expected it, well, that they would arrest me, I had a visa and I had everything. I went out for a ride on the skate and on the second turn I took the patrol arrived, and five arrived, and I said ‘I have a visa, this is my house’, and they canceled it that same day,” he said about the day of his capture.
The boxer assured that he is focused on returning to his sports career. He even assured that he only has to ask permission from authorities to return to the ring in Mexico or another part of the world.
At the beginning of September, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) challenged the conditional release of Julio César Chávez Jr., which was granted by a judge.
The FGR accuses the boxer of trafficking weapons, in addition to being part of the Sinaloa Cartel.
