Philip Butters assault case: How did Puno vote in the 2021 presidential elections?

Three weeks ago, legislator Ana Zegarra was delegated by the Subcommittee on Constitutional Accusations to hear this case, but to date she has not convened the respective hearings.

They themselves have threatened the mayor of Lima, Rafael López Aliaga, indicating that if the authority visits the region, he will suffer the same type of attacks. Likewise, the leader of Fuerza Popular, Keiko Fujimori, has been declared persona “non grata” by the population.

In this regard, it must be remembered that Puno was one of the regions where former president Pedro Castillo obtained the most votes. According to official information from the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), Castillo obtained support from 89.256% of valid votes.

The total of 645,813 votes for Perú Libre in this region represented a difference of more than half a million votes compared to Fuerza Popular, which obtained only 10,744% of the valid votes.

Of the total of 756,854 votes cast, 95,600% were considered valid and reflected a high effectiveness of the vote in the region. Null and blank votes remained low, with null votes representing 3.938% and blank votes 0.462% of the total cast.

This result in Puno was one of the pillars that supported Peru Libre’s final victory at the national level in the 2021 presidential second round.
