Mauro Carlesse resigns as governor of Tocantins

The removed governor of Tocantins, Mauro Carlesse, resigned this Friday afternoon (11) in the Legislative Assembly of the state. The letter of complaint was filed around 3 pm, before the second round of voting in the impeachment process that would define whether a mixed court would be opened to try the governor for a crime of responsibility.Mauro Carlesse resigns as governor of Tocantins

In the first phase of voting, parliamentarians unanimously approved the report by Deputy Júnior Geo, which recommended the continuation of the process.

On social media, after the complaint was filed, the now former governor posted a video in which it confirms the waiver. In the broadcast, Carlesse thanks the population and state servers, but said he has reached the limit because of the accusations he has been suffering.

“For me, I reached a limit. A limit [em] that it is unbearable for a human being to put up with so many lies, so much mess, as they are doing in my life. I am withdrawing from the government so that they can continue this government, so that the state does not harm itself more than it is,” he said.

In the resignation letter, delivered by lawyer Juvenal Klayber, Mauro Carlesse states that the decision to step down from his position “has as its main purpose to present in a calm and serene way his defense before the Judiciary in relation to the unfair and untrue accusations that were imputed to him “.

Impeachment

the request of impeachment, presented by lawyer Evandro Araújo de Melo Júnior, was accepted in December. Carlesse, from PSL, is accused of having committed crimes of responsibility in a scheme to receive illicit advantages by public agents in services linked to the Health Care Plan for Public Servants of the State of Tocantins. He had been removed from office since October last year, by decision of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ).

In yesterday’s session (10) at the Legislative Assembly, Carlesse’s lawyer, Juvenal Klayber, said that there is no evidence linking the removed governor to the alleged crimes. Klayber highlighted the fact that the trial takes place in the Legislative Assembly while the case is still being investigated by the STJ.

Deputy Júnior Geo, rapporteur of the process, reinforced that the decision to proceed with the impeachment was not yet condemnatory, and that a court formed by parliamentarians and judges would still analyze the merits of the complaints.

Now, with the waiver, the process loses its object and must be terminated. With that, the acting governor, Wanderlei Barbosa, assumes the position definitively. Elected vice-governor on Carlesse’s ticket, Barbosa served two terms as a state deputy and was also a councilor.
