Knowing history helps us not repeat the same mistakes, nor fall into the hands of those who only want to destroy an entire country. Therefore, the latest film Francisco Lombardi, The heart of the wolf (which is already on the billboard) is a good opportunity to learn about the painful era of terrorism that the country experienced. A group of businessmen, including Federico Cuneohas supported this initiative because of the value it means, mainly for young people who did not experience that time of violence.
How can a businessman support this proposal?
I have known Pancho (Francisco Lombardi) for many years, it is not the first time I have participated in a film. When he was making Ojos que no ven, which is a film against corruption, a group of friends also participated. When I found out that he had this new film in mind, it was a coincidence because we were just talking about how young people know very little about the Shining Path. I explained to him that I could organize a group of people to help with the investments.
What motivated them?
I think that as people who love the country, concerned about the future, we need people to know what happened and not be forgotten. The essence of Sendero Luminoso (SL) is present in the film very clearly and we do not want people to be confused and think that they are social fighters who must be admired. After having seen this movie, you will be greatly satisfied because the purpose has been fulfilled. I can speak for the group of 11 friends who participated in trying to follow it up and see what actions to take so that its dissemination is wide.
How do we continue promoting initiatives like this?
The film is on 70 screens nationwide and we monitor progress in each region. We know that it is widely seen in Cusco, in Ayacucho, in Lima. There are 23,000 viewers who watched it in four days. I have high expectations of the number of people who will see it because that will allow us to feel satisfied with having provided society with information that perhaps they do not know due to their youth and that is very valuable, taking into account that as a society we have to ensure that what happened is not repeated.
Many generations did not live through this period of terror. What is the commitment of Peruvians who know history?
To begin with, we must consider that this is a story filmed in the jungle, with spectacular photography, with spectacular performances, under the direction of Pancho. I would say that they watch and promote the film, because this is one of the actions that can guarantee that this is not repeated, that people understand that we have this risk. We know that there are people involved, who are still hanging around and that we should not let that prosper. It has to be seen mainly by the youth so that what happened is recorded.
You are quite committed.
When you commit to something like that you get excited. I wanted to be there the day the film was presented at the Lima Festival and it is exciting that when it ended, people stopped to applaud. What greater satisfaction than people who were not linked to us stood up and applauded like that. That was the first time I saw her. The second is with a group of journalists who recognized the quality of Pancho’s work and the meaning of the film’s purpose.
It is an effort in such a polarized country where we cannot find a point of dialogue.
There are many ways to commit to the future of the country. Peru is neither more nor less than the sum of Peruvians. To the extent that each of us plays our role, it will contribute to making Peru a bigger, fairer country. I do what I have to do and I have the honor and great satisfaction of having been with Pancho in soccer that one associates with victories and defeats. I had to support this effort and will do the next one as needed by searching collectively. I want my grandchildren to see it and know what happened.
