Labor inequality persists in the DR: the United Nations warns that women earn less and lead the informal sector

Santo Domingo.- In the Dominican Republic, the labor informality continues to be one of the great challenges of the labor market. When analyzed from a gender perspective, the gaps are even more evident.

Serrano stressed that, on average, the women They earn half of what men earn in the formal sectorreflecting marked wage inequality.

So, for Serrano, although the challenge is global, in the case of the Dominican Republic the figures are overwhelming: Women continue to be disadvantaged in terms of salaries compared to men. Therefore, he stressed the urgency of develop real and effective public policies that promote gender equality in the workplace.

The statements of the UNFPA representative coincide with data from the National Statistics Office (ONE)since, until 2024, the entity recorded that the average income in the main occupation for men was RD$28,827 On the other hand, for women it was RD$ 23,102. Both international organizations and the Dominican Government recognize the need to implement effective public policies of equity and formalizationwhich allow closing gaps and guaranteeing labor rights for all sectors, especially for women.
