House Speaker Mike Johnson just became one of the latest Republicans to make the Super Bowl LX halftime show a political issue. He harshly criticized the mega-famous Puerto Rican rapper and singer Bad Bunny, calling him a “bad choice” to headline the show.
He then named his preferred replacement for the record-breaking, Grammy-winning artist. “I didn’t even know who Bad Bunny was, but it seems like a terrible decision, in my opinion, from what I hear,” Johnson declared in the Capitol to journalist Pablo Manríquez, director of Migrant Insider.
When asked to clarify his opinion, he insisted: “Well, it seems like he’s not someone who appeals to a broader audience. And I think there are a lot of eyes on the Super Bowl. A lot of impressionable young people. And I think, in my opinion, Lee Greenwood, or role models, would do better.”
Greenwood, 82, has performed his song “God Bless the USA” at several Trump events in recent years.
Many MAGA Republicans appear to have issues with Bad Bubby remaining at the helm of the NFL’s coveted halftime event, including President Donald Trump, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Department of Homeland Security Advisor Corey Lewandowski.
“I don’t know who it is,” Trump declared Monday, adding, “I don’t know why they do it. It’s crazy, and then they blame it on a promoter they hired to get entertainment. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous.”
During a recent appearance on right-wing Benny Johnson’s podcast, Lewandowski said ICE agents would be at the February game at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
Secretary Noem confirmed this, telling Johnson: “We are going to enforce the law.”
