The main unit block of Cuba was reconnected in the afternoon of Tuesday after suffering a failure in the protection of the automatic control of the boiler, a problem similar to that which collapsed the national electrical system (SEN) in September.
His departure, in the midst of a sharpening of the prolonged energy crisis, had further shot the alarms of a population overwhelmed by the endless blackouts. The rapid reincorporation of the plant, however, does not reach even to cover the current deficiencies of the SEN.
Without going any further, also on Tuesday the unit 6 of Energás Jaruco and the engines of the Fuel de Moa center were disconnected. A part of these were already in service at 7:00 pm, according to Electric union (UNE), which today He did not lower either of those two floors.
However, the availability at 6:00 in the morning was just 1460 MW – about 200 MW less than yesterday at that same time – while the affectation already exceeded 1000 MW. At noon the estimated affectation will amount to 1300 MW.
Shortcomings in thermal and distributed generation
Even with the return of the Guiteras after yesterday’s scare, the thermal generation does not raise heads. This Wednesday morning there were nine disconnected blocks, including all of the thermoelectricas of Renté and Santa Cruz del Norte.
At least one of them, the 3 of Santa Cruz, must synchronize today for the night peak and contribute 50 MW.
Also at that time 50 of the 535 MW must be incorporated into distributed generation engines that are outside lack of fuel and lubricants. The rest will remain absent, like the 312 MW that are lost this Wednesday due to thermal limitations.
The planned incorporations – due – must raise availability at night to only 1560 MW, far from the optimal figures for that demanding time slot, when the maximum affectation estimated by the UNE must be 1750 MW.
The deficit, however, could be much greater in practice, since the planned demand (3240 MW) is lower than that of the preceding days and to overcome the affectation would be aggravated. This could also happen from a break in one of the plants in operation.
