The São Paulo Football Federation (FPF) drew this Tuesday (7), at the Pacaembu stadium, in São Paulo, the groups for the third edition of the Women’s Cup. The under-20 competition will be played between December 3rd and 20th, with the final at Pacaembu itself.
There are five groups, with four teams. The best of each of them, in addition to the three best runners-up, advance to the quarterfinals. The dates and times of the games will be announced later by the FPF.
The teams will have four stadiums in the capital of São Paulo as their headquarters: Nicolau Alayon, Canindé, Arena Ibrachina and Centro Esportivo, Recreativo e Educativo do Trabalhador (Ceret). The groups were named after trees from the Atlantic Forest and were as follows:
Group A – Pau Brasil (Ceret): Corinthians, Criciúma, Aliança-GO and Flamengo.
Group B – Jequitibá Rosa (Nicolau Alayon): Ferroviária, Minas Brasília, Internacional and Centro Olímpico.
Group C – Ipê Amarelo (Canindé): São Paulo, Remo, América-MG and Red Bull Bragantino.
Group D – Araucária (Ceret): Palmeiras, UDA, Grêmio and Botafogo.
Group E – Embaúba (Ibrachina): Santos, Sport, Vila Nova and Fluminense.
The current champion is Fluminense. In last year’s final, the Tricolores beat Internacional on penalties 5-4, after a goalless draw in normal time. It was the first official competition game held at Pacaembu since the stadium’s renovation, which began in June 2021 and took almost four years to complete.
Four of this year’s participants are competing in the Women’s Cup for the first time: Criciúma, União Desportiva Alagoana (UDA), Aliança-GO and Remo. The latter marks the debut of the North region in the tournament, which now covers all corners of the country.
The first edition of Copinha Feminina was held in 2023, with the title also staying in Rio de Janeiro, in a 100% Rio final. Flamengo lifted the cup by beating Botafogo 2-0 at Canindé.
