Small amounts

Most beneficiaries are entitled to low amounts. According to the BC, 64% of account holders have amounts of up to R$10, while only 1.8% have amounts above R$1,000.

The amounts are distributed mainly between banks (R$5.9 billion), consortium administrators (R$3.1 billion) and credit cooperatives (R$864 million). There are also resources in payment institutions, financial institutions, brokers and distributors.

Among the most common sources of forgotten amounts are closed checking and savings accounts, fees charged incorrectly, credit union shares, resources from closed consortiums and payment accounts with a residual balance.

At the end of May, the BC informed that it is possible to enable an automatic request for redemption of amounts receivable, made in the SVR itself. The process aims to make life easier for citizens, who will not need to consult the system periodically or manually register the request for each amount in their name.
